About Me
Danielle Jalotjot was born and raised in Fairfield, CA and is currently based in San Jose, CA. At a young age, she knew she wanted to create the same stories as the cartoons, Disney films, and Studio Ghibli films she watched and fell in love with.
Now at 22 years old, Danielle attends San Jose State University and is pursuing to graduate with a BFA in Digital Media Art. She hopes to explore the intersection of art and technology and apply her skills to work in the 3D animation industry.
Artist Statement
My artwork varies from traditional drawings and paintings, to digital illustrations and portraits. I enjoy the balance of creating physical and hands-on work, while also experimenting with different digital illustration techniques and effects. Mediums I utilize the most are graphite, ink, charcoal, and digital media.
In my work, I typically center the subject matter and content around Filipino culture, as I love expressing and sharing my roots, and feel there should be more Filipino representation in the arts and media. I also explore themes based on social issues, such as gender issues, intersectionality, and racism and stereotyping of Asian-Americans.
In more casual work, portraits are my favorite subjects to draw, as there are an infinite number of ways to draw the way someone looks. In these types of illustrations, I focus on drawing people of color with features unaligned with the Eurocentric standard of beauty.
With my art, I intend to open up discussion about cultural taboos and difficult issues that are often unacknowledged. I hope to inspire others to embrace their culture and identity as I continue to find who I am as an artist.
Traditional and Digital Work
My journey in the digital art world began a year ago, as I've been using mediums like graphite, ink, and acrylic paint for most of my art. With new traditional projects balancing with my personal work, I find myself exploring and experimenting in both worlds of expression.
